A Joyous Farewell

-To the Left the incredible talent of the GCA faculty, beer and hot wings.

I am so very grateful for the training I received from my teacher Jacob Collins. For many years I have watched him fighting the good fight. To bring knowledge and respect for the Classical Tradition back into the light.

In my own way I would like to fallow in his footsteps and bring about knowledge and respect for the genre of Classical Painting known as "Narrative". I am leaving the GCA to start up "The Guild". " The Artisans Guild for Classical Narrative Painting" will open up in Brooklyn this fall.

And to my fellow GCA faculty, It has been such a pleasure, we have had so much fun together. I will miss the GCA so very much and wish you all great success.

-Below, never have I had the pleasure of working with such a talented, wonderful and mature group of people. East Coast Rules!

Portrait Painting

We were all very fortunate to have such incredible talent in this year's Saturday portrait class,Drawing by John and paintings by Bob and Carlos.

Red Chalk drawing below is my own contribution to the class wich has been coveted by my father for his "man cave" to be placed between his Civil War musket and his 1873 Winchester rifle

Portrait Painting

We are rapping up the Saturday portrait class at the GCA. What a fun class it has been and the portraits are absolutely stunning. I am so very proud of my students! Thank you Tram for being such a wonderful and inspiring model. Eight, four hour sessions, is not a long time to finnish a portrait and I commend all of you for your focus and perseverance...may the form be with you......

Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew

2 Serv. Dost thou love pictures? We will fetch thee straight

A donis painted by a running brook,

A nd Cytherea all in sedges hid,

Which seem to move and wanton with her breath,

E ven as the waving sedges play with wind.

Lord. We’ll show thee Io as she was a maid,

A nd how she was beguiled and surpris’d,

A s lively painted as the deed was done.

3 Serv. Or Daphne roaming through a thorny wood,

S cratching her legs that one shall swear she bleeds,

A nd at that sight shall sad Apollo weep,

S o workmanly the blood and tears are drawn.

Orion Painting

Slowly but surely, coming to life.......and so unbelievably exciting. I am so gratefull for all of your emails, comments and words of encouragment. Enjoy

"A good painter has two main objects to paint, man and the intention of his soul. The former is easy, the latter hard as he has to represent it by the attitude and movement of the limbs."

Orion Painting

Here are the most recent updates for the Orion Painting. I spent a day drawing trees in Central Park. I am now in the process of getting the tree studies to work with the overall composition in the final drawing. Tree studies below. I purchased some potted grass to work from, hours and hours of drawing grass in perspective.....hmmm.

To the left, the drawing is starting to take shape, so so exciting. The continued struggle is giving the figures the feeling of action in the form of struggle which is quite different than the feeling of action in the form of skipping through the park. With so many figures there are so many individual opportunities for connection, infinite possibilities, overwhelming and incredibly gratifying.
